How to get Epona in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Link's faithful steed, Eponamay well appear in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Unfortunately, unlike the exclusive equipment from Breath of the Wild which is now directly available in TOTK without amiibo, this is not yet the case for Epona.
Which Amiibo to use to get Epona
There are technically two ways to have Epona in the game, but both require the use of an Amiibo. More specifically, using the amiibo Link adult version of Super Smash Bros or Link Twilight Princess version.
I have the Amiibo, how do I get my horse back?
To get Epona, make sure you are in an area where horses are allowedFor example, in a plain. If you try to use your Amiibo in a cave, on a celestial island or in the Deep, you will only receive a few items.
Once you reach the ground in Hyrule after the long introduction to the game, the Amiibo feature will be available. You can access it from the wheel of powerby holding down the L key. So go to a suitable location, open the wheel of powers and select the icon at the bottom left.
The Amiibo functionality is activated. Place your Amiibo on the stick of your right joycon or on the right stick of your pro controller. Epona should appear! If it doesn't, you can load the previous autosave and try again (this may take several tries).
I don't have an Amiibo, but I had Epona in BOTW
In that case, you will be able to get Epona back! Yes, you will, the TOTK stables contain all the horses in your BOTW backupas long as the backups are on the same console. Go to any barn and ask to remove a horse (even if you haven't captured one in TOTK yet). The manager will offer you your past mounts. If Epona was one of them, she will be there too.
What you need to know about Epona
Having Epona is only a symbolic and nostalgic bonus, but the mare has hardly any advantage over the other horses. On the contrary, in fact.
Indeed, there are many quests or mechanisms that will require you to use a horse with a saddle or harness capable of pulling carts. However, Epona is not customizable at all, it is impossible to attach accessories to carry out these quests.
We advise you to ride Epona for style, but to have horses in reserve for the rest of the adventure.
