Valorant Patch Notes 4.01

Just one week after patch 4.00, Riot Games is rolling out a new patch! The 4.01 patch notes correct the Ares and its meta domination. Here's everything you need to know about Valorant 4.01 Patch Notes.

Key points to remember of Patch 4.01:

  • Ares nerfed
  • Finally, knife buffed!
  • Customised lists of forbidden words

Ares nerfed

In an attempt to balance the different guns and fix the Spectre problem, Riot Games gave the Ares way too much power, so it's been flying around the meta for a week now. However, the developers are happy with the new feel of the weapon since they removed its slight priming time before the first shot. They are therefore working on other aspects of the weapon to bring it back to an acceptable level of power.

  • Price of the weapon increased
    • 1550 > 1600
  • Pitch recoil increased
  • Spread:
    • 0.8 > 0.7 after 10 bullets
    • 1.0 > 0.7 after 13 bullets
  • Crouch benefits spread and recoil:
    • 40% > 25%

Finally, knife buffed!

During the patch 4.00, developers mentioned changes to the knife and its accuracy. It turns out that even though these changes were mentioned in the patch notes, they were not implemented as planned. Patch 4.01 finally implements the planned changes.

As a reminder, here they are:

  • Right click hitboxes are now 1.5x larger. Left click hitboxes are now larger than a right click and have a slightly longer range too.
    • If several targets are in the hitbox of the knife, the one closest to your crosshair takes the damage

A customised list of forbidden words

Valorant's language filter avoids correctly spelled bird names, but it struggles to detect those that have been altered by playing with spelling, phonetics or special characters. Imagine a world where the word 'Mandatory' was banned, but rogues could still write M@nd@t0ry without being detected.

That's why Valorant will now host a customised list of banned words. You can write your own variations of words you don't want to see. Your list will be applied to your game, but also proposed to Riot Games, who will able to integrate the words and variations that come up most often into their filtering system.

Patch 4.01 will be deployed on the night of Wednesday 19th to Thursday 20th January 2022.
