solo becomes the new coach of DAMWON Gaming
A few weeks ago, the Korean player Kang " solo " Geun-chu announced that he was ending his professional gaming career . He will not have been away from the Valorant competitive scene for long, as DAMWON Gaming have just revealed that he will be their head coach for the 2022 season.
solo began his gaming career on Counter:Strike, more than twenty years ago. When Valorant was released, he abandoned CS to devote himself to this new FPS, and joined Proparty, a small organisation that was later entirely signed by NUTURN Gaming. After a year of competition with this team and several good results, notably during Korea Masters 1 and Reykjavik Masters, he wished to stop his career as professional player in November 2021.
Just one month after this announcement, the veteran returns as head coach for DAMWON Gaming.
DAMWON Gaming had a good 2021 season and placed well in several competitions in their region. Their top 2 in the Challengers 3 Phase 1 qualified them for Masters 1 Korea, where players achieved a top 3-4 after losing to Vision Strikers in semi-finals.
Their top 3-4 in the Phase 3 play-offs deprived of Berlin Masters, so they had to participate in the Last Chance Qualifier APAC. Unfortunately, FULL SENSE got the better of the roster and eliminated them in the semi-finals, thus ending their VCT season.
Now that solo has been hired as head coach, the team will be able to benefit from all the experience he has accumulated over the past twenty years, and hopefully see them at the top in 2022.
