G2 Esports and neilzinho part ways
G2 Esports is parting ways with its coach, neilzinho ! Although the team has not made an official announcement, the main interested party spoke on social networks to announced that his contract would end in December and that he was looking for a new organisation for the 2022 season.
Neilzinho joined G2 Esports in January 2021, with the aim of leading the team to victory in this first VCT season. Unfortunately, this goal was not achieved, as the roster had a disappointing year.
Average results in the various Challengers were not enough to qualify for the first two Masters. It wasn't until the Berlin Masters and a change on the players' side that G2 Esports was back in top form. The team achieved a top 4 and even managed to end the winning streak of the Sentinels, one of the best American teams. However, this achievement was not enough to qualify them for the Valorant Champions.
The G2s had one last chance to qualify by participating in the EMEA Last Chance Qualifier, but were defeated by Team Liquid on the doorstep of the Grand Final, dropping into the Lower Bracket where they faced Guild Esports. This last match ended in defeat, which marked the end of their VCT 2021.
G2 Esports' last appearance on the European competitive stage was at the Red Bull Home Ground #2, where the team finished last in its group and thus failed to make it to the play-offs.
The non-renewal of neilzinho's contract demonstrates a desire on the part of G2 Esports to rebuild in preparation of the 2022 season of the VCT. It would not be surprising to see some changes in the players in the coming weeks, but only time will tell.
