The Format of the Valorant First Strike North America
In North America, the Valorant First Strike is preceded by five community tournaments. The first two are managed by Nerd Street Gamers, which has already organised numerous Valorant events, notably during the the Ignition Series. The other two are managed by UMG Gaming.
The winners of the NSG and UMG tournaments will qualify for the Valorant First Strike North American, which will be played in December.
Please note, this is a rather complicated format, which we will try to explain here.
Nerd Street Gamers Tournament
Qualifications: from 26th to 30th October
Final: from 4th to 8th November
The first tournament of Nerd Street Gamers is a qualifier for their second tournament. This tournament welcomes 128 teams on a direct elimination bracket. Each match is played in BO3. Out of these 128 teams, the 16 best are selected for the second tournament.
The second tournament is reserved to the 16 teams that placed the highest in the previous tournament. These teams are divided into four groups. The results of the previous tournament determine the seeding of the different groups. After the group stage, the 8 best teams will be placed in a direct elimination bracket.
Among the 8 remaining teams:
- The 4 best teams qualify directly for the Valorant First Strike North America.
- The 4 other teams qualify for the UMG final tournament.
Qualifications: from 11th to 12th November and from 13th to 14th November
Final: from 18th to 22nd November
The format of the UMG tournaments is different from the format of NSG tournaments. UMG is holding two qualifying tournaments to reach the UMG final tournament.
Each qualifying tournament welcomes 128 teams, spread over four direct elimination brackets. The winners of the 4 brackets qualify for the UMG final tournament. The 4 losing finalist teams face off. Among these 4 teams, the 2 which win their match are also qualified for the final match.
So 12 teams, 6 teams per tournament, qualify for the UMG final tournament where they find the 4 losing teams of the NSG final tournament.
The UMG final tournament follows the format of the NSG final tournament. The 16 teams are divided into 4 groups that compete against each other. The 2 best of each group are placed in a direct elimination bracket. The 4 best teams qualify for the Valorant First Strike North America.
