VCT Lock//In Brazil: groups
The biggest international tournament in the history of Valorant, the LOCK//IN Brazil, is being held next February in São Paulo. It brings together a total of 32 structures, the thirty franchised teams of the VCT 2023 plus two Chinese representatives. For this unique competition, all teams have been divided into two groups, entitled Alpha and Omega. In this article, we give you the distribution of the teams and explain how the groups were made.
Distribution of the LOCK//IN Brazil teams
For this first epic tournament, Riot Games wanted to maximise the inter-regional matches. As a result, each of the two groups has 5 teams of the League of the Americas, 5 teams of the EMEA League, 5 teams of the Pacific League and 1 Chinese team.
The composition of the Alpha group
Group A includes 16 teams. Here is the complete list:
- Teams EMEA: Team Heretics, BBL Esports, Karmine Corp, Giants and KOI
- Teams Americas: NRG, mibr, Evil Geniuses, Cloud9 and LOUD
- Teams Pacific: Talon Esports, Paper Rex, Detonation Gaming, Gen.G and DRX
- Team Chinese: FunPlus Phoenix
The composition of the Omega Group
Group B also has 16 teams. Here is the complete list:

The two groups will battle it out until only two teams remain in contention for the title. The Grand Final of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday 4th March 2023.
Constitutions of the Lock In Brazil groups
As mentioned above, Riot Games wanted to encourage meetings between teams from different leagues as much as possible. A wish that was taken into consideration for the creation of the groups and the Bracket visible on the image above.
The studio first formed 16 opposing groups from different regions : 5 EMEA vs Pacific matches, 5 Americas vs Pacific matches, 4 Americas vs EMEA matches, 1 China vs Americas match and 1 China vs EMEA match.
Subsequently, these meetings were divided into Alpha and Omega groups, so as to build a knockout bracket. Each position in each region was assigned a number from 1 to 10, and then each team in each region was randomly assigned a number from 1 to 10 corresponding to a place in the bracket, and therefore in one of the two groups (Chinese teams were assigned number 1 or 2).
