What are the "Esports Awards"?

The Esports Awards ceremony was created in 2016. Similar to the Oscars which value the players, the Esports Awards aim to reward the players of the esports world in 3 distinct categories: Professionals, Industries and Community. Today, it is considered one of the most outstanding ceremonies dedicated to esports.

The Esports Awards is dedicated to showcasing top class performance and innovation from, amongst others, the players, teams, media, hardware providers, games, events, and personalities within the scene.

Valorant in the spotlight

Just over a year after its release, VALORANT has established itself as a leading esport game and has been nominated for the category Best Esport Game of the Year.

Since the release of League of Legends, Riot Games has been one of the major players developing the esports ecosystem. With Valorant, the company has entered the already crowded competitive FPS scene. Thanks to the quality of the productions and events related to League of Legends and Valorant during 2021, the company has been nominated for the categories Esports Publisher of the Year and Esports Broadcast/Production Team of the year.

The first edition of the Valorant Champions Tour has seen the discovery of many talented teams, but also individual prodigies. The Valorant esports scene is making a grand entrance in the Esports Awards, alongside with Call of Duty, Rocket League, Overwatch and League of Legends.

Over the course of the various stages of the VCT, the world's best teams have formed, reshuffled and competed. While the final stage of the Valorant Champions has yet to take place, some rosters are already favourites for the crown, including Sentinels and Gambit Esports. The former revealed itself as soon as Phase 2 and won the Masters 2 in Reykjavik, the latter showed consistency and won the Masters 3 in Berlin.

In addition to competing for the title of World Champion, the two teams were also competing for the title of Best Esports Team of the Year. Note that Valorant is not the only game represented in this category. Other teams from League of Legends, CS:GO, DOTA2, Call of Duty, Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch or Rocket League are also competing for the title.

The focus is often on the players as they are in the front line and perform in front of viewers. However, it should not be forgotten that a team that excels is often a team that has an efficient coach! The Esports Awards wish to highlight the work of these persons behind the scenes. Once again, the esports players on Valorant are making their mark. Andrey "ENGH" Sholokhov, the coach of Gambit Esports has been nominated in the category Best Esports Coach of the Year.

Some players enjoy FPS like Valorant only for the competitive spirit, but others are also interested in the game's lore. A point that has not escaped Riot Games, which offers high quality content to the community. Watching the Duality cinematic or looking at the lore in Fracture, it's easy to see why the company was selected in the category Esports Content Series of the Year.
