OpTic Gaming is the first team to qualify for the Valorant Champions

The news came out on Monday 20th June, OpTic Gaming is officially the first team to qualify for the Valorant Champions which will start in September.

OpTic Gaming originally made its name on Call of Duty and then gradually drifted into other games. On 10th February 2022, the North American organisation entered the Valorant scene by merging with Team Envy and getting his roster back. Thus, FNS, Victor, crashies, yay, Marved and their coach Chet, joined the ranks of OpTic.

Last year, Team Envy had a good season, winning a Challengers and finishing in the second place in the Berlin Masters 3. Nevertheless, it has only managed to make one top 9-12 at the Valorant Chapmpions 2021This was a somewhat disappointing performance. However, after some late season changes and the recruitment of Marved, the team is now one of the best in the NA region.

After making a top 2 in the first Challengers of the year, the roster made a name for itself by winning the Masters 1 Reykjavik. This victory earned them 750 circuit points in the overall standings. Entering the second NA 2022 Challengers, the team climbed to the top of its group with a 4-1 finish, and is now shining in the playoffs, which are not yet over.

Nevertheless, in beating Evil Geniuses 2-0 in the semi-final on Sunday 19th June, she secured her place in the Upper Bracket final, and therefore at least a top 3 finish. She now has over 800 points, making her the first team to qualify for the Champions which will take place in Istanbul in September.

Now the American roster will have to give it their all in the final against XSET to secure their place in the Masters 2 Copenhagen, and so join Fnatic and Guild Esports, two EMEA teams already qualified.
