FunPlus Phoenix makes ZHUQUE its main Valorant team
FunPlus Phoenix is not among the teams selected for the EMEA League of VCT 2023. However, the structure does not disappear from the Valorant competitive scene. The organisation has promoted its secondary team, ZHUQUE, to the rank of main team. This decision comes shortly after the official announcement of the arrival of Valorant in China. After dominating in Europe, FPX will therefore seek the heights in China.
FunPlus Phoenix has been making its mark on the Valorant scene in the EMEA region since its entry in August 2020. The structure quickly stood out from the crowd, demonstrating its determination to establish itself as soon as the BLAST Twitch Invitational in September 2020.
Over the next two years, the FunPlus Phoenix name appeared repeatedly in the European Challengers and in various international VCT LANs, including the Valorant Champions 2022. The team reached its peak by winning the Copenhagen Masters this year, after some setbacks.
However, FunPlus Phoenix was not selected for the 2023 franchise. As a result, the players were released from their obligations, before returning to a home with Natus Vincere, for the most part. If the FPX adventure seemed to be coming to an end on Valorant, it was without counting on its secondary team.
In parallel to its European roster, FunPlus Phoenix had acquired a Chinese team via its partner FunPlus, namely the ZHUQUE team. The latter has just been promoted to the FPX core team. AAAAY, BerLIN, Obito, Yuicaw and WudiYuChEn will therefore represent the organisation in the future.
Between 2021 and 2022, they participated in various competitions. Lately, they have even performed during the FGC Valorant Invitational 2022: Epilogue, by winning against the players of Edward Gaming in the final.
At the moment we have no information about the future official Chinese circuit. We can't wait to see how this new region will develop on the FPS, and how it will impact the overall competitive system of Valorant.
