How to beat Scarlet Valstrax
First of all, the Scarlet Valstrax is the most powerful enemy in Monster Hunter Rise (not counting Sunbreak). Even with the best armour in the game, it is capable of killing you with a single attack. So make sure you equip yourself accordingly, eat at the canteen before the mission and collect all the endemic life in the area.
The Scarlet Valstrax uses its claws, wings, fangs and tail to attack you. It has no blind spot and fighting it body-to-body is always a risk.
Its physical attacks are rather fast and can become real combos, especially when it tries to pin you to the ground with its wings. The range of these attacks can be surprising, so be careful.
But the Scarlet Valstrax has mostly plasma attacks that it fires from its wide wings. When it is about to fire with it, you can see red flashes forming at the tips. These attacks range from concentrated beams to bombardment to targeted bursts at you. If the Valstrax hits you with a plasma attack, it will inflict the Dragon Scourge, negating your elemental damage and making you even more vulnerable to its own attacks. Carry a supply of this damage to clean up the alteration.
Occasionally, the Scarlet Valstrax will fly into the air and spin around for a moment before falling violently back onto you in a gigantic explosion. Always keep an eye on that red rocket as soon as it takes to the air, sheath your weapon and prepare to make an emergency dodge: by running in the opposite direction to the monster and rolling, your character will leap to the ground and become invulnerable for 2 seconds.
The best time to attack it is when it is busy channeling large plasma attacks with its wings, otherwise it can too easily scratch or knock you over. If you see the Scarlet Valstrax spread its wings skywards, look up and scream as red lightning flashes around it: you must hit it as fast and hard as possible. If you succeed, you will interrupt his energy channeling and he will be dazed and weakened. If you fail, he will become even more powerful for a few minutes.
