Getting started with Monster Hunter Rise
Have you decided to go monster hunting with the new expansion? Then let's get started! To get your Sunbreak adventure off to a good start, you'll need to get used to the base game first, especially if you've never played a Monster Hunter before.
One of the first things to do is obviously to choose the weapon with which you want to play. There are 14 weapons in total, from the hammer, to the katana, to the volto-hatchet. In order to find the one that suits you best, there is nothing like trying out the dummies or the little monsters. However, you can also refer to our guide Which weapon to choose to start with? to learn more about each type of weapon.
To make it easier to get into Monster Hunter Rise and Sunbreak, you can recover many of the pieces of equipment free of charge. Indeed, since version 3.9 released at the beginning of the year, it is possible to talk to the Kamura village postman, Senri, in order to receive several gifts:
- The "Defenders" weapon set. With this set, you will benefit from increased damage compared to the basic Kamura set.
- The "Black Belt" armour. It will give you 150 defence, enough to protect you during the first hunts. In addition, it has some interesting talents that will improve your attack or life recovery.
- The Veteran's Talisman. This jewel gives you different talents, useful at the beginning of the game.
Once you have chosen your weapon, you will need to complete a series of quests to progress in the story. This is an essential step, as it will allow you toface all the Big Monsters of this episode. Also, if you want to get into Sunbreak quickly, it is necessary to save the village of Kamura from the attack of the Ibushi and the Narwa. To do this, you must complete the rank 7 Great Camp questentitled 'Goddess - Thunder Snake'.
Once you've got this far, it's time to push the preparation a little further. Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak will not do you any favours, so you might as well get ahead of the game!
Preparation for more experienced players
Even if you're already an expert at capturing, have completed all the quests, and have traversed all the areas in Monster Hunter Rise, you can still be as prepared as possible for what's next.
At this point you should already have effective armour. Make sure you have built up its defence to the maximum, you will need it to survive the first monsters of Sunbreak which will be far more powerful than anything you have encountered so far. Don't bother buying all the armour in the game and upgrading it to the max though. You should soon find better armour once Sunbreak and the Master Rank are available.
A new expansion means new Big Monsters, which means new equipment... level 1! In order to quickly benefit from the potential of these equipments, you will have to improve them. So keep your tack spheres for this occasion. If you don't have many, you can go and stuff some.
While waiting for Sunbreak, you can also optimise your companions. Ideally, you should mount your Palico and Palamute to the maximumThey tend to be overlooked, but they do a lot of damage. They tend to be overlooked, but they do a lot of damage and their passive skills can save the day, especially against Master rank monsters.
Once this is done, all you have to do is multiply the creation and fusion of charms in the Kamura shop. By creating talismans and charms, you can obtain different combinations of Talents and specialise your character. Insert gems into your armour and talismans to transcend the limitations of your equipment.
For the rest, you can increase your RC. There are new monsters to unlock up to RC 100, and even after RC 100, the event quests are quite challenging. These include the Advanced quests, which have you facing superior monsters that are even more powerful than normal. They are the ultimate test and successfully defeating them
You now have the keys to getting started in Monster Hunter Rise and its Sunbreak expansion. Whatever your level, if you're into cosmetics, you can also take advantage of the remaining time to complete all the event and challenge quests. The full list of these is available at the official Monster Hunter Rise website.
