Tier list of the best characters in Mario Strikers: Battle League Football
Putting together a good team will increase your chances of winning! All the characters of Mario Strikers As they are different, they are better at some positions than others. None of them are really bad and it is difficult to establish a real tier list, so we will just give you the 3 best characters per position in the game.
Be careful to balance your composition and to select complementary characters. Don't just take big bullies or fragile characters either.
The best captains to attack
A good striker must be able to score when the ball is put between his feet in front of the goal. He needs shooting, but also technique to surprise the goalkeeper and strength to avoid being stopped.
Harmony
Harmonie has the best possible stats for an attacker. She has a lot of Strength, Technique and of course Shooting. She can easily reach 25/25 in Firepower by modifying her equipment, which allows her to fire an almost unstoppable cannonball from the moment you load your shots.
Wario
Wario is an excellent attacker, with a Strength equal to Bowser's which makes him difficult to interrupt unless he is tackled hard. If he is better than the King of the Koopas, despite a slightly weaker Shot, it is because he has a higher Passing stat, which is essential for building play around goals. But the two characters are quite equal.
Peach
Peach may not have a very high Shooting stat, but her Speed and Technique allow her to catch the keeper off guard. When you charge a shot, select a direction to draw the keeper in, then switch suddenly at the last moment to surprise him and score stylish goals.
The best wingers to pass
The job of a good winger is both to recover the ball in defence and to create play and pass the ball in attack. The emphasis is therefore on Passing and Speed, with another useful stat such as Strength or Technique.
Toad
Toad is a very fast character and an expert in passing. He is also very small, which makes him more difficult to tackle. Toad can both throw the ball forward and pick up objects and orbs before his opponents. Just be careful to dodge tackles, as he is extremely fragile.
Yoshi
Yoshi has a very good Passing ability and compensates for the lack of Speed compared to Toad with an excellent Shooting ability. With Yoshi as a winger, you have at least two characters capable of scoring goals, which keeps your opponent on his toes.
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong is an excellent passer and very strong. He can pick up balls easily with his tackles before passing the ball back to his allies and creating play without being easily pushed around. Just watch out for his lack of speed.
The best defenders to get the ball back
A good defender must first and foremost be able to get the ball from an opponent's feet. He therefore needs strength, but also ways of returning the ball, whether by passing or running.
Waluigi
Waluigi combines excellent strength with excellent speed. He can easily chase down opponents and recover the ball. His poor passing can make it difficult to clear the ball, so you will have to go to your teammates to clear the ball yourself.
Donkey Kong
Unsurprisingly, Donkey Kong is also an excellent defender. He doesn't have the speed of Waluigi, which means he has to be more careful with his movements or he will get passed. His build, however, allows him to better interrupt balls as well as players, while his pass allows him to easily clear the ball.
Luigi
Luigi may not look like much, but his balanced stats, combined with his Pass, allow him to stop all types of attacks, whether they are made by strong or fast characters. He can also be useful when you go on the attack.
The best Hyper Strike
A good Hyper Strike and you're guaranteed 2 points. You'll need Technique to ensure a perfect shot or Shooting to give yourself a little more room for error. Finally, the different effects of the characters are to be taken into account. To find out more, see our guide to Hyper Strikes.
Peach
Peach's Hyper Strike is the easiest to pull off. With its high Technique, it's very easy to make the perfect shot. In addition, its Charm effect on failure easily hits multiple opponents while immobilising them.
Harmony
Even if it is difficult to get Harmonie's perfect Hyper Strike out, the shot freezing effect is so effective that it is not so bad. The goalkeeper, and anyone else around the ball, will be frozen even if it's saved, making it easy to put a goal in afterwards.
Mario
Mario is a combination of the best of the two above: good enough Technique to make Hyper Strikes easy to get out and a good Shot if it fails. The trajectory of the ball should easily burn opponents and incapacitate the keeper.
