How to make a perfect start?

In Mario Kart, we all had a moment of frustration because we didn't get a perfect start. Maybe that's the case in Hot Wheels Unleashed too. A good start is essential if you are aiming for the podium. There is a method to easily get maximum boost and speed from the start of the race, regardless of how rare your car is.

Whether you have access to visual cues or not, find out how to perfect your starts with this guide.

How to make a successful start without a visual?

For the majority of races, the game does not provide any visual help when it comes to starting. However, you can maximise your chances of getting a boost with the following method.

When you don't have a sidebar, you will have to pay close attention to the "3,2,1" counter at the top of the screen. To get a boost, you need to press the accelerator when the number 3 disappears from your screen. This is extremely precise timing. Depending on your performance, there are several possible outcomes:

  • Perfect timing You will see purple flames on the back of the car and get 3 booster pellets if your car has 3+ slots.
  • Average timing You will see green flames and get 2 tablets.
  • Bad timing There will be no visible flames and you will only get one boost.

It is extremely important to keep the accelerator button pressed down. If you release it, you will lose all the boost you have gained. Also, depending on your success and in addition to the dots, you will gain a speed bonus at the start.

If you have missed the mark completely, you will not gain any boost and you will start slower than the other players.

As you can see in the video above, this technique also works with cars that have a boost bar and not the pellets. Depending on the performance, the bar is more or less filled.

How do I get a successful sidebar start?

In the case of races with a "pitcher" start, you will have access to a visual aid at the beginning of the race: a side bar. It is divided into 4 zones: red, brown, green and purple. To get a speed bonus and boost pellets, you must Spam the accelerator button as soon as the number 2 appears on the screen. The aim is to move the cursor to the purple areabut also to keep it there.

Depending on the area you are in, you get more or less boost pellets: 3 purple, 2 green and 1 brown. As before, you will have a colour of flames at the back of the vehicle (or not), depending on your result.

Now that you've got the tools to make all your starts, all you have to do is launch the game to put your knowledge into practice. If you'd like more information on Hot Wheels Unleashed, check out all of our guides.
