League of Legends - ZLAN 2024 Game

League of Legends will be at ZLAN for the first time for this ZLAN 2024 ! Participants will finally have to compete in the world's most popular MOBA, in a variety of game modes, while learning to work as a team and trust their allies.

What is League of Legends?

Do we need to introduce League of Legends? Visit MOBA developed by Riot Games has established itself as the benchmark for the genre and esports. Although it was not one of the first Free to Play games in history, it was the one that democratised the model and made it acceptable to the general public. But what has made it so popular is both its simplicity and its richness. League of Legends perfectly encapsulates this concept of "easy to understand but difficult to master".The game's characters and mechanics are simpler than those of DOTA, from which it takes its inspiration, but that doesn't mean you can't create unique scenarios and strategies for each game.

League of Legends is a team strategy game in which 10 players divided into two teams of 5 compete against each other. Their aim is to destroy the opposing Nexus, a building located at the heart of each team's base. To reach it, you have to pass through one of three routes, protected by creatures, powerful turrets and... the opposing players! Players who are eliminated cannot play for several seconds, leaving their opponents free to progress. As players battle their way through the game, taking down the creatures, towers and opposing players, they accumulate money to buy items that will make them more powerful until they are able to destroy the Nexus.

It's a simple concept, but with nearly 170 playable characters, each with their own powers and subtleties, there are several thousand billion possible team combinations! No two games are the same, and that's what makes it so complex and long-lasting.

League of Legends Rules for ZLAN 2024

League of Legends will be played in two game modes: the competitive classic (5v5) and the Arena (2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2). There will be no restrictions on the use of this or that Champion. No holds barred!

Getting ready for League of Legends at ZLAN 2024

The qualities you need to play League of Legends

  • A good sense of teamwork
  • A good knowledge of the characters
  • The ability to analyse situations and make the right decisions

Preparing for the ZLAN for someone who has never played League of Legends can seem like an insurmountable task, and you have to accept that you'll never be able to compete in a month with those who have been playing the game for ten years (after all, you don't get to Gold 3 by chance). On the other hand, knowing the basics is within everyone's grasp and is quite essential.

First of all, you need to learn the 5 different roles in the game and their usual strategic positions on the map:

  • The toplanerAs the name implies, the fighter takes the high road. This is generally a solid character whose mission is to prevent opponents from attacking allies. His damage is not to be underestimated, however, as he tends to destroy enemies and towers through attrition.
  • The midlaneris on the middle path. He is generally a fairly fragile magician, capable of killing an opponent with a handful of spells. Their central position allows them to intervene from time to time in other parts of the map.
  • TheADCThe Attack Damage Carry (the one whose damage leads the team to victory) is placed on the lower lane. This is generally a ranged unit that relies more on its basic attack than on its spells and skills. It is fragile and rather weak at the start of the game, but it becomes more powerful as the game progresses until it becomes the most powerful unit in each team.
  • The SupportThe role of the ADC, usually a magician or tank, is to protect the ADC until it becomes more powerful. He has to keep an overview of what's happening on the map and guarantee everyone's safety. It's not the flashiest of roles, but good support makes a real difference and sets your team up for victory.
  • The Jungler is a unique role, since it doesn't go onto any lanes and doesn't correspond to any particular archetype. The Jungler is a player who hides between lanes and eliminates neutral monsters to grow stronger until they decide to attack their opponents by surprise. The Jungler immediately creates an overhang when he arrives on a lane, offering offensive timing to gain the upper hand.

As you won't really be able to choose your role during the ZLAN, we advise you to train on two different roles.

Once you've chosen the roles that suit you best, we recommend that you find the champion that best suits your style of play in each of these roles. For the record, players who subscribe to GamePass have access to all the playable characters, so you can try them all out, at least in co-op vs. AI mode to make up your mind.

As for the rest, you'll have to play and, above all, learn what the game's various characters are and aren't capable of if you don't want to be taken by surprise.

Here are a few basic tips:

  • Don't rush under the towers.
  • Attacking an opposing player causes all his henchmen to target you.
  • Save your mana for important moments.
  • For beginners: not dying is often more important than killing your opponent.
